Diet / Preventive Dental Care
A balanced diet can prevent and counteract caries. Limiting sugar intake is an effective way to reduce burns and thus avoid cavities, caries.
Brushing Teeth / Toothpaste
When the first baby teeth start to show, we recommend that you start brushing your baby’s teeth with a small amount of baby toothpaste containing fluoride. It is good to get the child used to brushing both morning and evening at an early age. At the age of six, it’s time to switch to adult toothpaste or a baby toothpaste with a higher fluoride content – for full protection against caries.
Start brushing yourself?
Starting around the age of twelve, the child can start brushing all by themselves, as their motor skills are sufficiently developed.
Bjärreds Tandläkargrupp offers dental care for children and teenagers.
The Development of Teeth
The first baby teeth start to show between 6 months and 1 year of age. It is usually the front teeth in the upper and lower jaw that become visible. It is common for the child to have difficulty eating and be anxious, sometimes with a fever and an upset stomach. Other teeth follow in turn and around the age of two, most children usually have had all their twenty baby teeth.
The first permanent teeth do not appear until four years later and are called the six-year teeth. These teeth come, as the name reveals, around the age of six and are the first real cheek teeth. As the tooth exchange begins, the baby begins to lose its baby teeth, which are replaced by the permanent teeth.
There are large variations regarding tooth exchange, both between boys and girls but also between family members. If you have questions about the child’s bite or the position of the teeth, we at Bjärreds Tandläkargrupp have the opportunity to offer a specialist in orthodontics at our sister clinic Limhamns Tandläkargrupp.
